SafetyDeck II is a unique interlocking plastic tile made from recycled PVC plastic and rubber materials. This product comes in several versions, each with its own set of useful applications. SafetyDeck II measures 50 cm x 50 cm (19 3/4″ x 19 3/4″) and is 25 mm (1″) thick. A solid-top version shares the same dimensions, while a third version retains the holes but adds a highly slip-resistant grit texture.SafetyDeck Features

SafetyDeck II features a pattern of square holes molded into the surface, serving multiple functions. These holes provide excellent drainage and allow grass and other types of ground cover to grow through the tiles. Additionally, they create a controlled flex pattern that offers excellent traction and substantial cushioning.

When used for playground applications, SafetyDeck II is installed directly over sod or soil that has been planted with grass seed. A thin plastic screen material, known as skrim, is placed between the tiles and the soil to prevent the tiles from sinking into the ground.

The SafetyDeck tiles stabilize turf areas, protecting against erosion and wear while enhancing grass growth in high-traffic zones. Once the grass matures, the SafetyDeck tiles nearly disappear from view.

SafetyDeck II has been thoroughly tested for impact absorption in accordance with ASTM F1292-99, achieving a certified fall height rating of 12 feet when installed over a sodded grass area. However, it is important to note that in real-world installations, the soil’s compaction level and the grass’s length or type can significantly affect the actual fall-height ratings achieved.

In addition to playground surfacing, SafetyDeck II has many other useful applications. These tiles can support over 9,000 pounds per square foot when installed over a hard surface. A common application is creating a “hidden” roadway for fire trucks and other vehicle traffic over grass-planted areas. This product provides excellent erosion control and is ideal for stabilizing parking areas in soft sand, mud, or snow.

When installed on rooftop decks and similar areas, a durable raised walkway can be quickly created. The solid-top version offers excellent anti-fatigue properties, making it suitable for various industrial and commercial applications. The grit-top version adds extra slip resistance, making it perfect for installation over walkways that may become slippery when wet or icy.
